How to Fix a Jammed AEG

A jammed AEG is one of the most common issues players experience. Fortunately, most jams are simple to fix and don’t require a full strip-down.

Before taking anything apart, follow this guide carefully.

⚠ First – Make It Safe

Before attempting any fix:

  1. Remove the magazine
  2. Disconnect the battery
  3. Switch the gun to safe
  4. Keep the gun pointed in a safe direction

Never work on an AEG while it is still powered.

Common Causes of AEG Jams

  • Low-quality or damaged BBs
  • Dirty inner barrel
  • Hop-up blockage
  • Weak battery
  • Gearbox lock-up
  • Double feeding

Identifying the cause helps prevent it happening again.

Step 1: Check for a Simple BB Jam

Most jams happen in the hop-up or barrel.

How to Clear It:

  1. Remove the magazine.
  2. Set hop-up to zero (fully off).
  3. Insert a clean unjamming rod into the barrel from the muzzle end.
  4. Gently push the stuck BB back toward the hop-up chamber.
  5. Shake out any loose BBs.

⚠ Never force the rod aggressively — you can damage the hop rubber.

Step 2: Try Firing on Semi-Auto

If the gun won’t fire on full auto:

  • Switch to semi-auto
  • Reconnect the battery
  • Fire a single shot

Sometimes the gearbox has stopped mid-cycle, and a semi shot will reset it.

If it fires, disconnect battery again and test normally.

Step 3: Check Your Battery

A weak battery can cause:

  • Slow trigger response
  • Clicking noise but no firing
  • Gearbox locking up

Try a fully charged battery before assuming a mechanical fault.

Step 4: Listen for Clicking

If you hear a single click when pulling the trigger:

  • The motor may be trying to turn
  • The gearbox could be locked

Try switching to semi and firing once.

If it still doesn’t cycle, you may need a technician to safely release the anti-reversal latch.

Step 5: Clean Your Barrel

A dirty barrel can cause feeding problems.

Use:

  • Cleaning rod
  • Lint-free cloth
  • Silicone oil (very small amount)

Clean from the chamber end where possible.

What NOT to Do

❌ Do not keep pulling the trigger repeatedly
❌ Do not force the motor height screw
❌ Do not strip the gearbox unless experienced
❌ Do not use low-quality BBs

Repeated trigger pulling can cause serious gearbox damage.

When to Seek Professional Repair

You may need servicing if:

  • Grinding noises occur
  • Motor gets hot
  • Gun won’t fire at all
  • BBs shatter inside
  • Fuse repeatedly blows

Internal gearbox repairs require proper tools and experience.

Preventing Future Jams

✔ Use high-quality BBs
✔ Keep barrel clean
✔ Use correct battery voltage
✔ Don’t overspin on full auto constantly
✔ Maintain your hop-up

Regular maintenance prevents most AEG issues.
