What Do I Need to Do to Buy a Black Airsoft Gun?
In the UK, realistic imitation firearms (often referred to as “black airsoft guns” or RIFs) are regulated under the Violent Crime Reduction Act (VCRA). This means there are specific legal requirements you must meet before purchasing one.
Below is a simple guide to help you understand what you need.
You Must Be Over 18
You must be 18 years or older to purchase any airsoft gun (including two-tone). It is illegal to sell an airsoft gun to anyone under 18.
Buying a Black (Realistic) Airsoft Gun
If you want to purchase a black or realistic-coloured airsoft gun, you must have a valid legal defence under UK law.
The most common and easiest way to do this is:
✔ Register with AirsoftVerify.co.uk
If you are over 18, the simplest method is to register at:
Airsoft Verify confirms that you are an active airsoft skirmisher and provides us with the legal defence required to sell you a realistic imitation firearm.
It’s quick, straightforward, and widely accepted.
Other Defences We Accept
We may also accept the following valid defences:
- UKARA Registration
- Membership at a recognised insured airsoft site
- British Airsoft Club (BAC) membership
- Re-enactment society membership
- Film, TV, or theatrical production use (with appropriate documentation)
- Museum or display purposes
If you are unsure whether your defence qualifies, please contact us before placing your order.
What If You Don’t Have a Defence?
If you do not have a valid defence, you can still purchase a two-tone airsoft gun.
A two-tone gun is brightly coloured (typically blue, red, green, or orange) and complies with UK law without requiring a defence.
Two-tone models function exactly the same as black models — the only difference is the colour.
Important Reminders
- You must be 18 or over to purchase any airsoft gun.
- It is illegal to attempt to buy a realistic imitation firearm without a valid defence.
- We reserve the right to request proof of age and defence before dispatching your order.
